SOCIAL LINKS

Kanji Tatsumi

FOOL

Naoki’s brother in all but blood, something Questing Country only solidified. There’s no one he trusts more, and no one he’d rather look to first when it’s time to start an investigation or come up with a plan. He just wishes Kanji would let someone be his rock instead of constantly trying to be everyone else’s. (And he needs to remember not to try talking about stuff when Kanji needs to do something to take his mind off things.)

Jean Kirstein

MAGICIAN

Jean acquired a Persona in a dungeon; Naoki definitely knows the hell of being yelled at by yourself, and first connected with him by helping him get used to his new power. Jean makes a point of checking in every Liminal Space, and he’s navigating some tricky stuff with his friends from home, as well as grappling with new information from there and his own less than savory overlays. He’s quickly become one of Naoki’s closest friends outside of the Inaba crew.

Minako Arisato

PRIESTESS

Naoki probably has the clearest picture of what Minako went through in Iwatodai of anyone who didn't go through it themselves, between their chat after Purgatory (helped along by the Trumps slapping ‘SACRIFICE’ on her arm) and meeting Ryoji during the blank Liminal after Rome. They spent every jaunt between the Grid and Newport either on opposite sides of the investigator/infiltrator divide or the jaunt/walkabout divide (if not both), building pretty much the entirety of their friendship in between jaunts. She’s one of Naoki’s favorite people to bounce Trump theories off of; they’re enough on the same wavelength to have interesting conversations about that, or anything at all. (The fact that he’s crushing on her is. Complicated, but mostly not because of the bit where she’s dead. He’s not likely to bring it up unless a jaunt forces the issue.)

Sabetha Belacoros

EMPRESS

Naoki’s interactions with Sabetha have largely been transactional in nature – she’s willing to Liminal-Manip ingredients for him to make stuff as long as she gets some drinks in exchange, and she’s the one who explained the next step in portals to him. She’s a good teacher, and not terrible company either, for all he doesn’t know her that well.

Yosuke Hanamura

EMPEROR

Naoki’s third iteration of Hanamura since he got here, and the most tolerable one by far (maybe having the Wild Card thrust upon him is making a positive difference). All the same, Naoki hopes this is the last one; having to start over every damn time is getting old. Between Yosuke’s sudden empathy powers and Saki’s birthday coinciding with the jaunt time, Newport seems to have done them a lot of good.

Lupa

EMPEROR

Naoki and Lupa went from not even knowing each other to having a decently deep connection after Questing Country. Lupa’s still piecing through a lot of what that means for him (and what infiltrator memories mean when you barely have any memories of your own) – and they both know what it is to grieve for people and not quite know how to express that. His dungeon was absolutely brutal, even on the lighter side of things, but Naoki would do it again in a heartbeat if Lupa needed help – though he was still surprised by Lupa offering to actually include him in his Tribe.

Randolph Lyall

HIEROPHANT

One of the first adults Naoki really clicked with. So what if he’s a werewolf, he’s a pretty strong stabilizing influence, and he knows from a seemingly normal town suddenly getting turned on its head. Going into Lyall's dungeon helped Naoki see just how much he's changed since everything started.

Rise Kujikawa

LOVERS

Rise may or may not be from Souji and Naoto’s timeline – if she is, she’s got about six months on them – but she’s still very much Rise. It’s still kind of weird knowing someone so much better than they know him, but Rise’s quicker on the social uptake than Naoto, so Naoki doesn’t think it’ll be a big deal.

Chie Satonaka

CHARIOT

Finally, someone else from home – which naturally means it’s the person Naoki has the most contentious dynamic with. All the same, Chie’s been filling a gap in Naoki’s life for far longer than he was ready to acknowledge it needed filling, but the fact that he considers her a surrogate older sister is only out in the open thanks to them infiltrating as siblings. It’s been a long, long road to get this far.

Souji Seta

JUSTICE

Souji still knows Naoki a lot better than Naoki knows him, what with the whole parallel-timelines thing – but it’s apparent he put in the effort, which must have been all the more impressive without the benefit of the case giving Naoki something to do, and that knowledge gap is slowly but surely closing. They haven’t talked much, but every time’s been interesting, and Naoki’s pretty sure most people don’t know just how often Souji is vague on purpose. On top of that, he’s come to realise they haven’t actually seen Souji in Leader Mode – probably because he hasn’t had to be – and people looking to that to judge Souji’s ability as a Wild Card aren’t looking at the right thing.

Malik Al-Sayf

JUSTICE

Malik is one of Project Infopool’s biggest allies, providing copies of his maps of jaunt/walkabout areas (maps with cultural information, to boot). He seems to respect Naoki enough to call him on his bullshit, which says a lot given how arguments between Travelers usually go, and how Nova Venezia blew up in Malik’s face.

Riddick

HERMIT

They haven’t talked much, and most of when they did was in Melasurei; it’s hard to quantify how much that counts. But Naoki thinks he still has a decent sense of the kind of guy Riddick is – decidedly gruff, but protective of what he cares about.

Phillip Santorini

FORTUNE

Phillip’s a nice kid… and a Shadow, apparently. Nothing wrong there. He also has some kind of connection to what Minako went through, but he bolted rather than discuss it (Ryoji clarified things, though Naoki didn’t connect him to Phillip until later). Naoki’s apologized for that misstep, at least; he’s not sure if that really made things okay for Phillip, but at least the elephant in the room’s been acknowledged and can go back to lounging on the couch. Hopefully, if he feels he needs a friendly ear about the situation, he’ll take Naoki’s offer to listen as he intended it.

Pod

STRENGTH

Touwata-chan, as Pod’s name’s auto-translate feature registers to Naoki, is a sweet kid who’s been through way more than anyone her age should have to deal with (and deserves a break from the crappy-overlay train more than just about anyone he can think of). She’s doing pretty well with processing a bunch of worlds very different from her own, and he hopes he put her at ease a little when she worried about her parentage putting up roadblocks with the other Travelers.

Drizzt Do’Urden

STRENGTH

Why, of all places, did he assume he wouldn’t be invited into Aiya? All the same, Naoki knows the feeling of being left out, if for different reasons to Drizzt, and is planning to make an effort to include him in more things – starting with chopstick etiquette.

Helena Wells

HANGED MAN

A kid couldn’t ask for a better surrogate mom. She got the claim Naoki was told he’d outgrown, and she knows a thing or two about loss – on a much deeper level, though they’re both still carrying it with them. Helena tries to be a voice of reason with some of the more obstreperous members of the group; that and her general motherly attitude put Naoki in mind of Kanji’s mom more than anything (which can only be a point in her favor). And to top it all off, she made sure he had adequate lab space, right when he needed it most. Disappeared after the ninja jaunt, only to re-emerge during Newport (maybe it was the thought of Arthur Conan Doyle as king of all England?).

Matthew Swift

DEATH

Matthew… Matthew’s an odd one, that’s for sure. It’d help if he could pick a pronoun and stick with it (a habit that makes much more sense now that Naoki knows about the Angels), but for all that he’s not such a bad guy. Naoki met him in Misericordia – not because he actually checked in at the beginning of the jaunt, but after he’d been kidnapped by the dragon. Turns out they disagree pretty sharply about whether the Arcana might possibly be up to something good here, but at least they’ve managed to have a civil conversation about it now (in the aftermath of Matthew’s Liminal-Space death, funnily enough).

Thorne

TEMPERANCE

Thorne’s kind of odd, but she’s nice enough so far, and she has it in her head to keep Naoto safe. Naoki’s not sure what to make of the whole vampire thing, but she seems to have it under control, more or less - to the point where she’s even earned a temporary reprieve from it.

Alcuin

TEMPERANCE

One of Naoto’s close friends. Alcuin’s trusted Naoki with a lot of deeply personal stuff lately, and aside from that, wants to do the right thing by Naoki’s closest friends. That counts for quite a lot.

Zed

DEVIL

Zed and Naoki first met while infiltrating in Questing Country. Zed was a pretty decent guy there, and… well, he’s not completely horrible as himself, but he’s definitely a weird one. Mostly harmless His own worst enemy when it comes to doing actual damage, considering how easily he can sidetrack himself.

Jules Thibault

TOWER

How this guy apparently survived fae captivity when he’s scared of absolutely everything, Naoki may never know. He’s probably never going to be of any comfort to Jules, either, but that happens when you survive taking on a death goddess. Never getting alcohol from Naoki again.

Maria Ushiromiya

STAR

An adorable (if occasionally really, really weird) kid that Naoki got far too mixed up with for anyone’s good while she was playing host to the Green Illuminant. He seems to be doing all right at explaining adult-type stuff on the theme of balancing local economies and Jaunt Holdovers Are Weird to her, so there’s that.

Jolie Ann Harmony

STAR

Oddly enough, Liminal Space isn’t Jolie’s first experience with being whisked off to a world not her own and messed about with by godlike entities – in that case, they tried turning her into an actual monster. For the most part, though, she doesn’t seem to be letting it get her down. Naoki’s not used to people close to his age being this… bubbly, aside from Rise, but she’s not bad company.

Dorian Pavus

MOON

Naoki and Dorian are from very different worlds, from what little Naoki knows, but they share the common language of sarcasm, and Questing Country gave them grounds for a closer connection (everyone needs a snarky gay uncle type in their life, right?). Disappeared after Nova Venezia and returned after the jaunt to January – Naoki hadn’t realized he’d missed Dorian being around that much, but is quite glad to have him back.

Naoto Shirogane

SUN

It’s astounding how little Naoto changes across timelines – everyone from Inaba more or less knows her. But she’s not the Naoto Naoki knows from home; what’s weird is the fact that he’s known this one longer. Even with the universe differences, she’s still the second person he’d turn to when it’s time to make a plan, if she’s available for it. After January, she has a better understanding of what it’s like to grow up with a close family.
